The Society welcomes everyone interested in culture, in its broadest sense. We currently have more than 100 members in the Woodstock locality and beyond.
The Society was founded in 1966 after a series of lectures in the old Primary School building left the audience 'wanting more'. It has always followed a broad range of subjects in its monthly lectures, ranging from scientific topics to all aspects of the arts, as well as history and politics, often embracing issuing topics of local interest. We are regularly able to attract high-calibre speakers in all fields.
We aim to organise several visits a year, ranging from visits to the theatre, opera and concerts, to historic houses and gardens, and visits to one of the colleges in the University of Oxford.
Membership is open to anyone who shares such interests. The small subscription provides modest recompense for speakers and the costs of hiring venues. Over the years it has also enabled the Society to give some help to local enterprises such as the Woodstock Education Foundation and the Woodstock Youth Club.
