The Society welcomes everyone interested in culture, in its broadest sense. We currently have around a hundred members, from Woodstock and beyond.
The Society was founded in 1966 after a series of lectures in the old Primary School left the audience 'wanting more'. It has always followed a broad range of subjects in its monthly lectures, ranging from scientific subjects to all aspects of the arts, as well as history and politics, often embracing topics of local interest. We are regularly able to attract high-calibre speakers in all fields.
We aim to organise several trips a year, ranging from visits to the theatre, opera and concerts, to historic houses and gardens and Colleges in the University of Oxford.
Membership is open to anyone who shares such interests. The small subscription provides modest recompense for speakers and covers the costs of hiring venues. Over the years it has also enabled the Society to give some help to local charities such as the Woodstock Exhibition Foundation and Woodstock Youth Centre.
