Cheltenham,

  Everyman Theatre

Our Spring theatrical outing will be to the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, for a performance of The Habit of Art by Alan Bennett on Saturday, 28 March.

This is a new production by The Original Theatre Company, York Theatre Royal and Ghost Light Theatre Productions. Starring Matthew Kelly and David Yelland, and directed by Philip Franks, the play recounts a fictional meeting of W.H. Auden and Benjamin Britten while the latter is composing the opera, Death in Venice.

‘…a multi-levelled work that deals with sex, death, creativity, biography and much else besides…[with] the characteristic mix of Bennett wit and wistfulness.’ Michael Billington, in The Guardian, of the original production in 2009

We shall set out at 10.15 a.m. from the former Woodstock Library, at the entrance to the car-park, arriving in Cheltenham at about 11.30 a.m. There will be time to visit, e.g., the Wilson Gallery or the Holst Birthplace Museum, and have lunch. The play starts at 2 p.m. and runs for 2 hours, 25 minutes, including one 20-minute interval, ending at 4.25 p.m. We should be back in Woodstock by 6 p.m.
